Title
Colosseum Restoration Inscription
Subject
Colosseum Restoration Inscription, 443-444 CE.
Description
Although built in 75 CE, Emperors and magistrates continued restoring the Colosseum throughout the Late Antique era. Inscriptions, such as this one, would be put on structures or statues that underwent renovations as a form of patronage.
This inscription reads:
During the reign of our tow emperors, Theodosius and Placidus Valentianus, Rufius Caecina Felix Lampadius, a most distinguished and [illustrious prefect of the city repaired] the sand-floor of the Flavian amphitheater along with its imperial box ... and doors but also the stadium seating.
